Lukas Josef Podolski, commonly known as Luis Podolski, was born on June 4, 1985, in Gliwice, Poland. His family moved to Germany when he was two, and he grew up in Bergheim, North Rhine-Westphalia.

Podolski's footballing journey began at the local club Rot-Weiss Berheim. His exceptional talent was evident from an early age, and he quickly progressed through the youth ranks.

In 2003, Podolski signed his first professional contract with 1. FC Koln. He made his Bundesliga debut at the age of 18 and quickly established himself as a key player for the club.
