Stella Assange Expresses Hope for Husband's Release

In a historic meeting at the Vatican on Friday, Pope Francis met with Stella Assange, the wife of imprisoned WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange. The private audience lasted for approximately 30 minutes and covered a range of topics, including Mr. Assange's ongoing legal battle and his health concerns.

Speaking to the press outside the Vatican after the meeting, Ms. Assange expressed her gratitude to Pope Francis for his "compassion and understanding." She said the Pope had listened attentively to her concerns and had offered words of support for her family.

"The Pope said he was praying for Julian and for our family," Ms. Assange said. "He also said that he believes in the power of truth and that he hopes Julian will be able to continue his work of exposing wrongdoing."

Ms. Assange's meeting with the Pope comes at a critical time for her husband. Mr. Assange is currently facing extradition to the United States on charges related to the publication of classified documents. If convicted, he could face up to 175 years in prison.

The meeting with Pope Francis has given Ms. Assange and her family renewed hope that Julian will be able to secure his release and be reunited with his loved ones. The Pope's message of compassion and support has sent a strong signal that Mr. Assange's case is not being forgotten.
