Women's Super League: Arsenal Thrash Aston Villa 4-0, Blackstenius Bags Hat-Trick
Gunners Keep Title Hopes Alive
Arsenal continued their pursuit of the Women's Super League title with a dominant 4-0 victory over Aston Villa, thanks to Stina Blackstenius' first-half hat-trick.
Blackstenius opened the scoring in the 16th minute, tapping home from close range after a scramble in the Villa penalty area. The Swedish striker doubled her tally just seven minutes later, firing a low shot past goalkeeper Hannah Hampton. Frida Maanum extended Arsenal's lead in the 27th minute, heading in a corner from Katie McCabe.
Blackstenius completed her hat-trick in the 35th minute, slamming home a rebound after Hampton had saved her initial effort. The victory keeps Arsenal six points behind league leaders Chelsea and Manchester City with six games remaining in the season.
Aston Villa put up a spirited performance but were unable to find a way past Arsenal's solid defense. Rachel Daly had a chance to pull one back for Villa in the second half, but her header was well saved by goalkeeper Manuela Zinsberger.
